Machine Operator/Mill Assistant

Summary:

Separates Gas Tungsten Arc Weld (GTAW) Sheath Tube Mills to form and weld stainless or nickel alloy tubing around a conductor by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Prepares equipment from verbal or written production schedules.
  • Consults production order and any special manufacturing procedures (SMP) for the part number and install and set up any equipment that is required.
  • Set up tube mill to produce desired size and grade of steel.
  • Use setup sheet to gap rolls, adjust cyclomatic arc control, power supply, and weld and purge gas.
  • Set up welding torch position and weld rolls to achieve quality weld.
  • Visually examines welds for adherence to specifications.
  • Trouble shoot set up to resolve welding and roll defects by making the necessary adjustments.
  • Successfully produce Strip Splice Welds (SSW) using automatic welding machine.
  • Selects and loads payout with proper conductor and steel strip.
  • Feeds strip and conductor through mill.
  • Set up bull block to draw the proper size.
  • Maintain cleaning system to work written instructions.
  • Produce sample coil, test, and evaluate when required.
  • Set up coiler or realer to schedule, production order or instructions from supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be computer literate and capable of using computer software.
