Position Overview

Under direction of the Clinical Services Supervisor, coordinates and completes tasks needed to allow offenders to communicate with civilians through in-person visiting, video visitation and telephone, inputs data into Offender 360, receives visitor information forms from civilians, directs inquiries to appropriate staff; serves as back up receptionist; answers phone and takes messages. Serves as back up to clerical staff; types a variety of complex documents and charts.

Job Responsibilities

1. Coordinates and completes tasks that allow offenders to communicate with civilians.

2. Receives inquiries/questions/complaints from offenders and civilians related to video visitation, inmate telephone system, electronic funds transfers, MP3 players/software and electronic messaging.

3. Receives and reviews potential visitor information forms (PVI) from civilians, communicates with civilians to complete forms, routes PVI forms for approval.

4. Prints daily video visitation schedules, creates call passes for offenders on schedule, delivers Schedules and call passes to appropriate staff.

5. Serves as back up to clerical staff.

6. Serves as back up receptionist for clinical services and other departments.

7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years office experience.
  • Requires ability to type accurately at 45 wpm.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures and programs; requires extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Requires working knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Requires elementary knowledge of Agency programs, rules and regulations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy.
  • The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.

COVID19 VACCINATION MANDATE:

Governor Pritzker announced a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all State employees whose job duties require them to work in a congregate care facility. All 24/7 congregate-care facilities operated by the Illinois Department of Corrections are included in this mandate, which is scheduled to take place October 26, 2021. Administration is currently in negotiations with AFSCME for employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement in regard to this mandate. The State will offer the exemptions required under law for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical and/or religious reasons.
