Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Plan Examiner II – Building/Fire.

The Plans Examiner II reports to the Plan Review Supervisor. The primary function of this position is to conduct reviews and analyses of residential, commercial, and industrial land development projects, as well as assist in projects from permit application to final inspection. This position conducts front counter work and workstation plan reviews, makes field visits, and reviews applications, plans, and related documents to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and ordinances while providing information and technical assistance to internal and external customers.

First review of applications will take place on all applications received by 7AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. If enough applications are received by the review date the posting will close on January 5, 2022, otherwise it will close at the end of the day on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

At Team Gilbert, we hire innovative, forward thinking problem-solvers who love what they do! In addition to possessing the ability to live out our core and functional values daily, candidates must possess the following requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.);
  • At least one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in a related field, such as building construction, engineering, environmental, architecture, blueprint reading, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing;
  • 3-4 years working experience within a building and planning environment;
  • Fire Plan Review experience preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job classification;
  • Two (2) ICC certifications, one of which must be from the Building Plans Examiner category. The second may be from the residential or commercial, plan review, or inspection category.
  • Valid Driver’s License


  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances;
  • Knowledge of landscape and irrigation design principles, planning and zoning principles, construction terminology, and spatial and mathematical concepts;
  • Skill in computer-aided and/or pencil-drafted construction drawing, reading and interpreting written materials and technical drawings, reviewing construction drawings for quality and content, and conducting site inspections;
  • Reviewing and analyzing planning documents;
  • Preparing and presenting reports, correspondence, maps, studies and related items;
  • Conducting site inspections;
  • Excellent communication skills for corresponding with internal and external customers.

This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt – eligible for overtime compensation.
